Probius at ACS Fall 2023. Booth #1558.
Stop by and let’s chat about how we can simplify your (bio) analytical method development using Quantum Electrochemical Spectroscopy (QES).
QES is a new spectroscopic technique that can measure molecular vibrations without the need of sample preparation or reagents.
QES has great analytical sensitivity and specificity, demonstrated in its ability to differentiate:
-
-
-
Very similar insulin peptide isoforms
-
Leucine Mass isotopes
-
Leucine structural isomers
-
-
Come to our booth!, book some time to see a demo and discuss how to solve your analytical problems with QES!!

Frequently Asked Questions
QES stands for Quantum Electrochemical Spectroscopy. QES leverages the knowledge from an old spectroscopic technique called IETS (Inelastic Electron Tunneling Spectroscopy) to measure the vibrational frequency of the electrons of a molecule, which can be used as a fingerprint. IETS is a very powerful technique but was deemed impractical for everyday use because it requires ultra low temperatures to operate. QES overcomes these limitations and makes the principles of IETS practical and accessible to all.
Molecules are made of atoms, and atoms contain electrons, protons, and other particles. Electrons get pulled and pushed by different forces and “vibrate” as if they were attached to the atom by a spring. The vibrational frequency of the electrons in a molecule can be used as a fingerprint to identify and quantify that molecule. QES can determine the vibrational frequencies of different species in a sample, and with the help of different standards, can determine what is it and how much the sample has.
QES combines principles of electrochemistry and physics to make representations of biological samples tractable by AI algorithms. QES records the electron charge transfer at the quantum level to infer the vibrational frequency of electrons. This information is recorded at different steps and summarized into a file. This file is then processed by the Probius Bioanalytical cloud services and made accessible to the user through the software for on-demand analysis.
We have tested whole blood, serum, plasma, culture broth, and food samples, among other samples.
The sample amount depends on the matrix or sample type. For example, only 2ul of whole blood and 4ul of serum are required.
Each MiniQES instrument has six vials that can be used in each run. Given the simple operation, multiple instruments can be used simultaneously, increasing the throughput to run samples in parallel.
We have detected and quantified proteins like cytokines and liver enzymes, oligonucleotides, peptides (e.g.insulin), metabolites (e.g. glucose), small molecule drugs, glucose, and microorganisms like Salmonella and Staph Aureus, among others.
Data gets acquired in ~30 min per run. Each run can acquire six samples in parallel.
Yes, QES is not limited to human samples. We have tested QES measurements in liquid samples and suspensions from mice, rats, humans, culture broth, buffers, etc. The advantage of QES is that it does not require specific reagents like antibodies, which tend to be specific for each specie.

Currently, we have started our early access program and there are 2 available options:
- Our Research Grant Program is called QESLab. Here academic researchers can get access to a MiniQES instrument and consumables to collaborate with Probius in breakthrough applications. To chat with us, please leave us your details here.
- for those who are not an academic researcher, we have established an early access program, to get you moving with QES before it is broadly available. This program has similar intent, but different terms. Please contact us here.
